A primary source about the scriptures brought from Tang China by Jikaku Daishi Ennin
This is a draft (copy) of the directive issued by the Principal Controlling Board (a division under the Great Council of State) to Enryaku-ji Temple. It was issued to prevent the dispersal of the Shingon Buddhist texts brought back from Tang China by Jikaku Daishi Ennin, who passed away in 864. The directive ordered Enchin, then Head of the Tendai Order, and others like Henjo to inspect, seal, and deposit these texts in the Soji-in repository at Enryaku-ji Temple. At the end of the scroll, Enchin's own handwriting states that he created this copy in 875 after the original was taken away from the temple.
