A document portraying Enchin’s divine sensitivity

This scroll contains two writings: a record of a dream experienced by Enchin, and the Letter to Zhihui Lun Sanzang, both decchoso-bound documents.

The dream record provides details of a dream Enchin had on May 10, 856, while staying at Xu Zhi's house in Suzhou during his quest for Buddhist teachings in Tang China. The dream involves Enchin, accompanied by Zen master Enkin at the north hall of Enryaku-ji Temple's ordination platform, encountering Fujiwara no Yoshifusa, Minister of the Right, who appeared suddenly. In the dream, Yoshifusa expressed his desire to appoint Ennin as the Head of the Tendai Order, discussed two vases he had brought along, and a painting of the Samantabhadra for Longevity image to be enshrined in the Buddha hall.
