This is the handwriting of the 41-year-old Enchin, who was known for his transcendent and extraordinary calligraphy style

Aspiring to seek the Dharma in Tang China, Enchin departed Japan in 853 and landed in Fuzhou (Fujian Province). He then traveled through Wenzhou and Taizhou (both in Zhejiang Province), reaching Mount Tiantai by the end of the same year, and stayed at Guoqing Temple. This catalog, prepared by Enchin himself in his own handwriting before departing from Mount Tiantai to Chang'an, organizes the sutras and other texts he had acquired during his journey.
