Enchin takes center stage, bearing the expectations of the entire Tendai Order
This document marks the appointment of Enchin as the Head of Shingon Studies at Mount Hiei in July of 846, following the completion of his 12-year seclusion on Mount Hiei. The appointment was made by consensus, signed by the three leaders of Enryaku-ji Temple, and stamped with the Enryaku-ji Temple seal. Although the document states Enchin's age as 41, he was actually 33 years old at the time.
